Alone In The Crowd


Can you see me sitting here?
Or am I cellophane?
Is the raindrop not considered
when contemplating rain?
I sit here and collect dust,
like an object on a shelf—
Unendingly alone
yet never by myself.
No one hears me singing;
they only hear the song.
The notes fall on their useless ears;
the tempo is all wrong.
I cannot hear the orchestra,
for the chorus is too loud;
Adrift among the masses,
I’m alone in the crowd.

             Optical  Delusions
           
    If I could give to you one gift,
            not for occasion or reason
    But for the mere want to give,
    I would give you vision—
    New eyes with which to see
            and access to perceive
    Images that have always been
            but remain elusive to your sight.

    I would bestow upon you focus revised
            and vibrant clarity
            so that you might regard, as I,
            what is vital, plain and true
            yet unknown to you:
                The size of your heart
                The breadth of your mind and
                The weight of your thoughts
                The shape of your love
                The colors of your spirit and
                The height of your potential.

    You would know yourself through my eyes.

For “The Pretenders”
enriched and changed my life beyond measure.  Our Eating Disorders
(ED's) are the common denominator which brought us together, but our
friendships, love and need for each other is what will bind us forever.  
After our visionary founder created our small group, we decided we
needed a name; thus, we became The Pretenders.   Our numbers have
increased and decreased since 1996, but we remain strong and
committed to helping each other and ourselves through the daily
struggles of life with an ED.  
In 2000, our web site was created, and it is a wonderful resource for
anyone whose life has been affected by an ED.  I hope that, even if
your life has never been touched by one of these illnesses, you will visit
the site and learn a little about how these "monsters" affect  the lives of
some very real people.
