Sisters And Friends
c. 1995 L. Greye
The poetry on this page was inspired by and dedicated to
women who I have loved.  What I gained from each of
them has helped make me who I am now, and what I
learned from them prepared me for the last and most
important relationship of my life, with my partner, Deb.
For this reason, I bless these women and honor them here.
The poem above was written for my first true love and high
school sweetheart, Monica.  Sadly, as we grew older, our
relationship couldn't withstand the changes of growing up.  It
ended badly, but we managed to find our way back to the
friendship that had brought us together in the first place.

As I mentioned in the introduction on the opening page of this
site, another woman somehow managed to find a way into
my heart while I was still with Monica.  Our relationship was
brief and incredibly intense, but ill-fated, nonetheless.  She
married the man she was already engaged to, and they now
have an idyllic life.  C'est l'amour.
As the end of a relationship looms, people find insidious and
terrible ways to hurt each other. Sometimes a word or a look
inflicts a greater wound than any hand ever could.
Hope springs eternal...and Love flows from it, like soothing and
intoxicating waters to cleanse, to warm, to drown.  We happily wade into
those waters, oblivious to their depth or danger, and we are consumed.
But, alas, should we survive the submersion of seduction, we greedily
gather our breath and hastily plunge back into the perilous depths.
